With a few simple tricks, you’ll have everything you need in no time, and can head out the door stress free. And check out our FREE packing guide to help your trip get started on the right foot!
Each adventure may have unique packing needs, but picking the right bag can save a ton of wasted time and energy. Do you really need to drag a heavy rolling bag from hotel to hotel? Or lug a heavy backpack that’s impossible to find your phone charger in? Obviously a longer journey may need more provisions, but our favorite go-to is a fun and funky tote that can be used as a carry on. It’s light, it’s easy, and you can’t over-pack.
To make packing a tote easier, sort out what you will be wearing for each day, counting the clothes you will travel in. Choose light clothing that you can mix, match, and layer. Transition clothes are great for this since you can create a number of different outfits. After shoes, layer in thick fabrics such as sweaters, khakis, jeans. Make sure to leave a gap in the middle for cosmetic bags. Fill up the empty edges with small items like brushes, books, or your handy travel translation guide. Pro Trip: Only One Pair of Jeans. If you can help it! They don’t have to be washed every use for one thing and will take substantial space in your case.
Keep travel sized toiletry bottles in zipped bags that don’t leak when jostled. Include anything that might ruin your perfectly packed clothes if they leak. Place paper Itineraries and hotel addresses in a plastic bag as well, just in case your bag is what gets wet.
Do you have several pairs of casual shoes for different outfits sitting next your bag, also sandals, oh and maybe sneakers? The hardest decision will be which to leave at home. Just remember you can only wear one pair at a time! If you plan to need sneakers or hiking shoes, plan your wardrobe accordingly so they can be worn throughout the trip. Limiting shoes to one or two pairs will make all the difference in the weight and contents of your bag. Pro Tip: Cover shoes in a shower cap. This is the perfect hack to ensure your shoes remain clean and so do your clothes. Keep a couple of shower caps handy for dirty shoes, or double down on the Ziploc.
They are a fun and ideal storage space to keep extra cash, jewelry and any other small items close at hand and secured in your bag. Probably the most important travel accessories you will bring with you will be your phone charger. To prevent that panic attack, fold them and any other cords into your second fun make-up bag. They won’t get all tangled and you’ll be able to find them in a hurry.
Take the anxiety out of escaping for the weekend. Put together a packing list to check things off for your trip. With that in hand you won’t have to keep checking your bag to make sure you’ve put in enough underwear.
