Peppermint bark. What a wonderful creation. Here from the Food Network is a great recipe that you can make at home for parties or as a gift:
Line a 9x13in baking dish with parchment paper, smooth out any wrinkles.
Melt all but 3/4 c of the semi-sweet chocolate in a double boiler on low heat. Remove from heat and gradually add the 3/4 c reserve chocolate until all is melted. Return bowl to double saucepan to help melt the chocolate slowly.
Stir in 3/4 t peppermint extract into the chocolate, then quickly pour into the baking dish evenly. Set aside at room temperature for 10 min.
Put all but 1 c of the white chocolate in the double boiler and repeat melting process, eventually melting all of the white chocolate. Stir in the remaining 3/4 t of peppermint extract. Pour over the semi-sweet chocolate in an even layer in the baking dish. Sprinkle immediately with the crushed candy canes, gently pushing them into the chocolate. Set aside at room temperature until cooled, about 1 hour. Lift the bark out of the baking dish and break into pieces.
